The 6th edition of the Boulevard des Séries Formations will take place online from March 7-9, 2023 and in person at Maison des auteurs in Paris on March 13, 2023.  In light of the time difference between California and France, the program will be conducted online 
from 9 AM to 11 AM in California, and from 6 PM to 8 PM in France.

Morocco-based artist and cultural activist Laila Hida has been selected as the first winner of the new Recanati-Kaplan Prize. Created by the Recanati-Kaplan Foundation and Villa Albertine in partnership with the Institut du monde arabe, the prize is awarded to a cultural figure from the Arab world.

Each year, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, Villa Albertine welcomes five thinkers, creators, or culture professionals from the African continent to complete a residency in the US. The five laureates, selected out of the current call for applications, will get the opportunity to complete a two-month exploratory residency in a US city in 2024. This residency program aims to promote unique creative voices and practices from Africa with the potential to shed light on major contemporary issues, as well as open up new perspectives in the US and France.

Albertine Dance Season: A year-long celebration of the art of dance from inception to performance

Albertine Dance Season 2023

The Book Department of Villa Albertine works with FACE Foundation, the Institut français and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to promote French and Francophone literature and to encourage English translations of French books in all categories (fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, comics and poetry). To that effect, it oversees programs concerning translations from French into English of works that have not yet been published in the United States.

This program encourages the creative and professional development of French-based jazz and contemporary music composers, musicians, and ensembles through Creative Grants for new creations and commissions and Touring Grants for US tours.

We at Villa Albertine, in partnership with FACE Foundation, are pleased to announce the eight grantees selected this year by the Etant Donnés jury, with a total allocation grant of $119,500.

For 28 years, this program has fostered active collaboration and encouraged long-lasting partnerships between France-based visual artists and collectives and American curators and cultural institutions. Grants support the development and/or presentation of new work.

Villa Albertine and FACE Foundation are pleased to announce the grantees for the 2022 application cycle of the FACE Contemporary Theater program. FACE Contemporary Theater fosters innovative artistic collaborations in theater, contemporary circus, puppetry, and street theater, allocating grants to French or American nonprofit institutions and creators from France, the African continent, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.

Villa Albertine and FACE Foundation are pleased to announce the grantees for the 2022 application cycle of the FUSED (French US Exchange in Dance) program. This program fosters dialogue, strengthens professional relationships, and sparks creative artistry by connecting and supporting leading institutions and contemporary choreographers and performers from France, the African continent, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Grants support the development and/or the presentation of new work.

2022 Grantees: FUSED

From April 17th to April 21st 2023, Sounds of New York will welcome 7 French podcasters to take part in a one-week learning expedition to New York to meet key industry players. This program from Villa Albertine and  Face Fondation, supported by Spotify, Radio France, RFI (France Médias Monde), SACD, l'institut français, INA, and Paradiso Media –– aims to support the development of French podcasts with high international potential.

Sounds of New York

Villa Albertine collaborates with universities, publishing houses, libraries, bookstores, and other venues across the United States to organize events with guests authors at the time of publication of their book into English translation.

French Authors on Tour

Dance, theater, new circus, puppets, and street arts have their own identity and heritage in the United States and, in this context, Villa Albertine has designed a map identifying the main organisations related to the performing arts in the U.S.  with International programmings,  to guide French professionals with their projects abroad. The map is non-exhaustive and subject to change.

ALBERTINE CINÉMATHÈQUE is an educational and grant program of Villa Albertine and FACE Foundation, with the support of the CNC and Fonds Culturel Franco-Américain. Designed to expand access to French cinema and support film programming at American colleges and universities, Albertine Cinémathèque’s annual film selection engages with the greatest issues of our time, while nurturing an enduring love for this diverse and evolving art form.

In partnership with the Center for Curatorial Leadership, Villa Albertine's 2023 Museum Series brings together 24 French and American women museum directors, sparking new transatlantic debate on the future of museums and promoting a new generation of leaders anchored in this transatlantic debate.

In light of a special programming dedicated to a multifaceted exploration of dance, Villa Albertine Dance 2023 season, in New York, the New Media team interviewed leading choreographers, producers, dancers, and designers who anchor their artistic practices into the virtual world. Marie Albert, Charles Ayats, Margherita Bergamo Meneghini, Clémence Debaig, Gilles Jobin, Blanca Li, Jean-Marc Matos, Paul Marlier, Jeanne Morel, Aoi Nakamura, Esteban Lecoq, and Brandon Powers shared their thoughts on the future of dance.

The second largest metropolitan area and third largest city in France, Lyon is now famous for its modern neighborhoods (La Croix Rousse, Confluences) that once hosted factories.  Now a hub for the development of new media in France, the city has a lot to offer to those who love, learn and create in the digital and artistic fields.

Co-writing a screenplay with ChatGPT, creating digital art with Midjourney… The latest development of artificial intelligence has defied the concept of art and artistic creation. The AI revolution touches all artistic genres, from music, to literature, and filmmaking. In 2022, Villa Albertine resident, the writer and filmmaker Simon Bouisson, explored the way algorithms are designed to predict our desires, by using AI tools predicting his own creative processes. Can humans and algorithms exist side by side? The Villa Albertine New Media team interviewed creators, researchers, curators, and exhibitors to investigate the future of art, in an AI world.
