Gerima returns to Ethiopia for his most recent feature, a winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Venice International Film Festival. Working in both super-16mm and HD, Gerima spans three decades as he follows the fractured journey of Anberber (Aaron Arefe). A medical student in 1970s Cologne, Anberber returns to Cold War–era Addis Ababa and finds himself ensnared in the day’s Marxist upheavals (see also Gerima’s documentary Imperfect Journey) and reminisces about his rural childhood.
