Performing Arts
Villa Albertine and FACE Foundation are pleased to announce the grantees for the 2021 application cycle of the FUSED (French US Exchange in Dance) program. These programs support artistic collaborations in dance between the United States and France, and the chosen projects represent the highest caliber of performing arts from their respective countries.
French artists in the United States
Seven US institutions will receive grants for projects involving French dance artists in the United States.
Residency Grantees
- The Divine Cipher – Ana Pi
Cisneros Institute & MoMa, New York
Residency of Brazil-born choreographer and performer Ana Pi to develop her new project, The Divine Cipher. From a precise setting—Haiti—Pi’s new work will connect trans-disciplinary and Black diaspora art. The FUSED grant complements a prestigious fellowship from the Cisneros Institute and MoMa that she received in 2019-2020.
- Our First Time – Thierry Thieû Niang
The Invisible Dog Art Center, Brooklyn
Residency of French choreographer and director Thierry Thieû Niang to develop the interactive piece Our First Time with participants from the LGBTQIA+ community in Summer 2022 at The Invisible Dog Art Center, Brooklyn, NY.

- Habitus – Nidal Abdo with the Nafass Collective
Chez Bushwick, New York
Residency of performer and choreographer Nidal Abdo with the Nafass Collective for a Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 residency to develop Habitus at Chez Bushwick, New York, NY. The work explores the relationship of the body dancing in different regions of the world (France, the Middle East, and the United States), adjoining and conjoining cultures and questioning the concept of bodies in exile.

Choregus Productions, Tulsa, OK, will present Fouad Boussouf-Compagnie Massala’s Näss as part of the company’s 2022 US tour.

City Parks Foundation, New York, will present the US premiere of Anopas by hip hop company Art Move Concept at SummerStage in August 2022.

Presentation Grant
- Threads Dance Project, Minneapolis, MN
Hamdi Dridi and Salia Sanou
Dance collaboration with dance artists
Threads Dance Project will partner with dance artist Hamdi Dridi (France) in 2022 for the creation of Unattainable Object of Desire at Le Louvre Museum, and with Montpellier Dance Festival for the presentation of Be Still Standing, a work that was created by Salia Sanou (Burkina Faso) for Threads Dance in 2018.

Institut français
The Institut français is responsible for France’s international cultural program. Operating in a space where the arts, intellectual exchange, cultural and social innovation, and linguistic partnerships interact and intersect, it is also responsible for promoting the French language and the sharing of works, artists, and ideas all over the world. The Institut français is one of Villa Albertine’s main French partners.
