As part of Audrey Diwan’s US tour, L’événement / Happening is screening at Atlanta’s Landmark Theatre on April 28 at 7pm. This screening will be followed by a discussion with director Audrey Diwan. This program is hosted by National Council of Jewish Women-Atlanta and Planned Parenthood Southeast.
Awarded the Golden Lion at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, Audrey Diwan’s second film delivers a moving adaptation of L’événement, the novel by famous French writer Annie Ernaux.
SYNOPSIS: France, 1963. Anne is a bright young student with a promising future ahead of her. But when she becomes pregnant, she sees the opportunity to finish her studies and escape the constraints of her social background disappearing. With her final exams fast approaching and her belly growing, Anne resolves to act, even if she has to confront shame and pain—even if she must risk prison. Trailer available here.
