On April 12, join Villa Albertine for an evening celebrating the French and American podcast communities, featuring live recordings, performances, poetry, and much more. 

With the support of Albertine Foundation and our Sounds of New York partners, Villa Albertine will host a special Podcasting Party featuring a variety of discussions and activities exploring questions of identity and representation within the French and American podcast communities.

From an in-depth look at the podcast projects of French participants of the Sounds of New York masterclass program to live experimental music and voguing, the event offers something for everyone.

A series of panel discussions moderated by the Editorial Director of Villa Albertine Raphaël Bourgois will feature Villa Albertine resident Jamal Ouazzani; podcast hosts The Zakar Twins; writer, reporter, and co-producer of The Retrievals Susan Burton; poet and teacher Rashad Wright; vogue dancer Ousmane Wiles and musician Raimundo Atal.

A podcast bar will be available in our bookstore to introduce guests to a variety of English-language podcasts from France and the US.

Opening Remarks | 6:20pm ET

Mohamed Bouabdallah, Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy

Musical interludes by Raimundo Atal, musician, environmental economist, and Chilean activist of Syrian and Palestinian descent.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Atal plays drums, the guitar, synthesizers and more with multiple groups as well as a solo artist. His two most recent projects are Y No, with Peruvian artists Vered Vengelhard, and A.B.E.L.A. a collective of electronic Latin American drummers in NYC.

This discussion will be followed by a performance by Ousmane Wiles : Ousmane Wiles is an African American West African and vogue dancer. Wiles is best known as, legendary Omari NiNa Oricci, co-founder of The House of Nina Oricci [est. October 2019] and creative director of LES BALLET AFRIK dance company. His choreography has been featured with Madonna, Janet Jackson, Beyoncé, John Legend, Jidenna, Goldlink, Rashaad Newsome, and many more.

A cocktail reception will conclude the event.

Society of Dramatic Authors and Composers (SACD)

The SACD is the oldest authors’ society in the world. Founded by Beaumarchais in 1777, the society is owned by its author members. It represents more than 60,000 authors in the cinema, audiovisual, digital creation, podcast and performing arts sectors. The SACD manages and defends their rights collectively, provides them with numerous services, offers them workspaces, advises them in their access to their social rights or matters related to their author status… SACD also supports contemporary creation and the distribution of works, thanks to the “private copy remuneration” system.
