Everything French during Miami Art Week
Art Basel Miami Beach:
The largest art fair in the United States, presents its 22nd edition at the Miami Beach Convention Center, showcasing 286 leading international galleries making it the largest edition to date.
Fifteen French galleries will participate, including, Crèvecoeur, Chantal Crousel, frank elbaz, Karsten Grève, Galerie Lelong & Co, Mennour, mor charpentier, Nathalie Obadia, Perrotin, and Almine Rech.
As for Art Basel’s partner fair, Design Miami, it will feature seven French galleries including Patrick Seguin, Negropontes, Mouvements Modernes and Carpenter’s workshop among others.
French galleries in other fairs:
Close to fifteen additional fairs will be up in Wynwood, downtown and Miami Beach.
Art Miami and Context fairs will host eight French galleries including local institutions Lélia Mordoch, while the associative art fair NADA will feature French galleries representing emerging artists cadet capela, Ceysson & Bénétière and Galerie Lefebvre & Fils. French-Caribbean designer duo dach&zephir will showcase a creole installation at Untitled Art Fair Miami, presented by Atlantic Arthouse.
French artists highlighted by Miami partners :
Works of French artist Marielle Plaisir are part of the City of Miami Beach’s Miami Art Week program entitled No Vacancy, while Daniel Buren’s “Voile/Toile — Toile/Voile” regatta, which features striped sails created by the artist, will take place Dec. 2, in collaboration with the Miami Yacht Club. The sails will later be installed at PAMM.
Honoring the Etant donnés grant:
A special attention will be given this year to Etant donnés, a visual arts grant attributed to American partners presenting French artists by the Albertine Foundation. Several renowned contemporary artists including Jean-Michel Othoniel, Claire Fontaine, and Laurent Grasso have been exhibited in Florida with the support of the Etant donnés grant. This year alone, three South Florida museums are highlighting artists from France during Miami Art Week: Jaqueline de Jong at the NSU Art Museum, Ulla von Brandenburg at The Bass, and Marguerite Humeau at ICA Miami. On December 3rd, Villa Albertine will be hosting a special event to celebrate the 30 years of the Etant donnés grant program, organized by Villa Albertine and Albertine Foundation with the exclusive sponsorship of AXA, in partnership with Institut Français, French Ministry of Culture and ADAGP.
Villa Albertine is once again partnering with the French Professional Committee of Art Galleries (CPGA) to offer the Etant donnés Prize, created in 2022 and awarded annually to a living artist active on the French art scene and exhibited at Art Basel Miami Beach.
Filmgate x Villa Albertine present Nocturne Immersion:
While contemporary art is the focus of Miami Art Week, it is an opportune moment for exposure to new audiences. It is in this context that, on December 7, Filmgate Interactive Media Festival is partnering with Villa Albertine to present Nocturne Immersion, a special evening at the Bass Museum of Art celebrating immersive visionary creation, connecting French and American leaders and artists from the contemporary and digital art worlds.
The evening will include live music and performance art with French and American art leaders, artist talks, and the reveal of Villa Albertine’s French Immersion grant winners, an initiative designed to empower the next generation of immersive creators in the U.S.
