Be Generous Rather Than Generic, Launch of a Two-Volume Monograph | Nov 2, 2023
This Monograph by ChartierDalix follows up with Accueillir le vivant: l’architecture comme écosystème (Welcoming the living, architecture as an ecosystem), published in 2019 by Park Books editions. While their first publication highlighted the research carried out by ChartierDalix studio in its early years of activity, this enhanced edition covers 12 years of design practice. Their work has been recognized in numerous international competitions and has won several awards, including the Prix Europe 40 under 40. This two-volume work presents the studio’s entire body of work, focusing on projects in and around Paris.
Frédéric Chartier and Pascale Dalix continue their advocacy of urban greening. They tackle new chapters of human organization in rural and urban contexts, questioning the domination of man over nature, the relationship with soil and roots, and the configuration of space in dense urban areas. This 400-page publication presents some twenty completed architectural projects, each extensively documented with detailed descriptions, previously unpublished photographs and architectural plans. The selection includes projects such as the transformation of the former Lourcine barracks into the new Université de Droit-Paris I, which was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award and honoured with the Frame Award 2020, a number of office and commercial structures, the transformation of the Renault Design Center in Guyancourt, as well as several designs for private and social housing. With its rich illustrations and in-depth reflections, “Chartier-Dalix. Built Works 2008-2021” is a magnificent and instructive two-volume publication.

About ChartierDalix
Since its founding, ChartierDalix has brought to life over twenty buildings, with a further dozen currently under construction. In 2017, the French Academy of Architecture presented the agency with the Le Soufaché Prize in recognition of all its work, which has also been acclaimed at a large number of international competitions. The agency was the winner in 2016 of a competition to renovate the Ternes district of Paris (entitled Réinventer Paris, Ternes). In 2017, it won another competition to transform the Montparnasse Tower, working as part of the Nouvelle AOM collective (which also includes Hardel & Le Bihan Architectes, and Franklin Azzi Architecture). In 2019, Frédéric Chartier and Pascale Dalix were awarded with the insignia of Chevaliers des Arts et des Lettres (“Knights of the Order of Arts and Letters”) in recognition for their contribution to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world. In 2023 they have been invited as official Contributors to the 5th Chicago Architecture Biennial as part of their Villa Albertine residency.
