About Delphine Horvilleur

Delphine Horvilleur, born in Nancy in 1974, is a prominent figure in the realms of Jewish culture and religion in France. Alongside her career as a writer, she is France’s third female rabbi. She leads a congregation in Paris and is currently co-leading the Liberal Jewish Movement of France, a Jewish liberal cultural and religious association. Delphine Horvilleur has already written several books on Jewish identity like An Eve’s Attire: Modesty, Desire, and the Female Body (MacLehose Press, 2022, originally published in France by Grasset, 2013) or Anti-semitism Revisited: How the Rabbis Made Sense of Hatred (MacLehose Press, originally published in France by Grasset, 2019). 

About Living with our Dead: on Loss and Consolation

Living with our Dead is an invitation to accept loss and vulnerability as essential and enriching parts of life. In this profoundly humanist and moving book, Delphine Horvilleur celebrates life, recounting eleven stories of loss, mourning and consolation, collected during the years she has spent caring for the dying and their loved ones. Horvilleur writes both about public figures and ordinary people, rejecting the contemporary tendency to banish death from our lives.
