Call for Applications: Museums Next Generation 2027

Museums & Heritage

East Building, National Gallery of Art

Open to French museum professionals, apply by November 18, 2026 for the fifth edition of Museums Next Generation in the U.S.

In 2027, Villa Albertine, with the support of Albertine Foundation, is launching the fifth edition of the Museums Next Generation program. Each year, this initiative offers seven French curators and seven American curators a unique two-week immersion in each other’s museum landscapes. This transatlantic program is designed to accelerate professional development and foster long-term collaboration between visionary curators in France and the US.

In spring 2027, the French cohort will focus on how museums shape the narratives they convey. Through their collections, programming, and interpretive practices, museums shape our understanding of the world, history, and cultures.

For the first time, an itinerary through the American South, including New Orleans, Atlanta, and Washington, DC, will offer perspectives on this question across a wide range of contexts, including history and social history museums, art and science museums, and heritage and memorial sites. The program will particularly explore how American museums address the memory of slavery, segregation, and the civil rights movement, as well as how narratives that have long been marginalized can be made visible and passed on through critical reflection on institutional practices.

The program will take place from March 29 to April 9, 2027. French curators can apply through this platform by November 18, 2026 at 11:59 p.m., Paris time. Participants, selected by a jury of experts, will be announced during the week of December 14, 2026.

For more details, please see the French version of the application or contact Joanne Snrech, Director of the Museums, Heritage & Design Department at Villa Albertine (joanne.snrech@villa-albertine.org).

American Curators: Stay tuned! The call for applications for the edition taking place in France will open later this year.
