French productions and co-productions featured in the 95th Oscars® shortlists!

The Oscars® shortlists cover 10 categories overall including Documentary Feature; International Feature Film; Animated, Live Action, and Documentary Shorts; Makeup and Hairstyling; Music Original Score; Music Original Song; Sound; and Visual Effects.

We are very excited that a lot of French productions and co-productions are featured in the 95th Oscars® shortlist!

One of the most anticipated film of 2023, Alice Diop’s Saint Omer – this year’s Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize and award for Best Debut Feature at the 2022 Venice Film Festival and France’s entry for the Best International Feature Academy Award® – was selected and will compete with one Majority-French co-production, Return to Seoul by Davy Chou (Cambodia), for the Best International Feature Academy Award®.

Minority-French co-productions selected in this category include: Corsage by Marie Kreutzer (Austria), Close by Lukas Dhont (Belgium), Holy Spider by Ali Abbasi (Denmark), Last Film Show by Pan Nalin (India) and The Blue Caftan by Maryam Touzani (Morocco).

For Animation Short Film, Ice Merchants by João Gonzalez (Portugal, France, United Kingdom), New Moon by Jérémie Balais, Jeff Le Bars, Raúl Domingo (France) and Steakhouse by Špela Čadež (Slovenia, Germany, France), were selected for the shortlist.

For Live Action Short Film, The Right Words by Adrian Moyse Dullin, Sideral by Carlos Segundo and Warsha by Dania Bdeir, were shortlisted.

Last but not least, French composer Alexandre Desplat’s work was selected for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio for both the Music Original Score and Original Song (for “Ciao Papa”) Academy Award.
