Little Jaffna, 2024

Layered with nuanced socio-political underpinnings, this gripping French crime thriller is an impressive debut feature that explores identity and belonging within the Tamil Community of Paris while skillfully blending stylistic elements of epic Western crime thrillers with the vibrant aesthetics of South Indian Cinema. Having shown at the prestigious Critics’ Week of the Venice Film Festival, Bay Area audiences now have the exclusive opportunity to see the film, which has been described as dynamic, memorable, and impressive by critics.

Screening to be followed by an in-person Q&A session between Lawrence Valin and UC Berkeley professor Debarati Sanyal.
