Third Horizon Film Festival returns for its 8th edition, with Villa Albertine supporting French Caribbean voices.
From May 29 to June 1, 2025, Third Horizon Film Festival will celebrate its 8th edition in Miami, once again transforming the city into a vibrant hub for Caribbean and Global South cinema. Villa Albertine is proud to renew its support for this essential platform, particularly for its commitment to amplifying the voices of French Caribbean filmmakers.
Since its founding, Third Horizon has become a vital space for showcasing the diversity and complexity of Caribbean stories. Year after year, the festival brings to the forefront daring, boundary-pushing cinema that challenges dominant narratives and broadens the global conversation.
Villa Albertine is honored to partner with Third Horizon in recognizing the extraordinary creativity emerging from the French Caribbean. Over the years, the festival has introduced audiences to both pioneering and rising talents, including Malaury Eloi Paisley, Wally Fall, Aliha Thalien, Sarah Maldoror, Sylvaine Dampierre, and Julius-Amédée Laou — filmmakers whose work reflects the richness, struggles, and cultural vibrancy of the region.
This year’s French-language highlights, supported by Villa Albertine, include three remarkable films:
- Kouté Vwa (Listen to the Voices)
Maxime Jean-Baptiste (2024) – French Guiana, Belgium, France
A haunting meditation on memory, identity, and legacy.
Followed by a Q&A with Audrey Jean-Baptiste. - True Chronicle of the Blida Joinville Psychiatric Hospital in the Last Century, When Dr. Frantz Fanon Was Head of the Fifth Ward Between 1953 and 1956
Abdenour Zahzah (2024) – Algeria, France
An illuminating dive into Frantz Fanon’s revolutionary vision and resistance against colonial oppression.
Followed by a Q&A with Abdenour Zahzah. - West Indies: The Fugitive Slaves of Liberty
Med Hondo (1979) – Mauritania, Algeria, France
A visually striking and politically fierce landmark of Caribbean cinema.
Special introduction by Annabelle Aventurin, who led the film’s restoration.
Through this ongoing partnership, Villa Albertine reaffirms its dedication to celebrating the diversity of French cinema and to championing the dynamic new voices of the French Caribbean on the international stage.
