In honor of Bonnard’s Worlds exhibition at the Phillips Collection, Villa Albertine DC is hosting a free screening of “Pierre Bonnard – The Greatest Painters of the World,” in partnership with the Phillips Collection.

Pierre Bonnard was fascinated with drawings and color. He studied at the Academie Julian followed by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A Post-Impressionist artist, he was part of a group known as “The Nabis.” Characterized by his nude portraits, Bonnard was known for his unusual conception of perspective and space.

The program aims to illustrate the life and work of Pierre Bonnard, from the discovery of his vocation to his relationship with “Les Nabis” painters. It also delves into Bonnard’s intimate life with his muses, notably Marthe de Méligny, his wife. Later, the program depicts Bonnard’s relationship with the South of France, specifically Le Cannet and his house “Le Bosquet,” which greatly inspired his use of color. An emphasis is placed on Bonnard’s depiction of intimate interiors and internal emotions. The end of Marthe de Méligny and Bonnard’s lives concludes the movie.

This film is part of “The Greatest Painters of the World” series, focusing on different famous painters from around the world.
