Museum Talks | Washington, DC #9 National Gallery of Art and The School of Paris

As part of the European Week organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, we are honored to be joined by Harry Cooper, Senior Curator of Modern Art at the National Gallery of Art, for a virtual talk on the School of Paris (L’Ecole de Paris) on May 12th at 6:00 pm.

This conversation will be moderated by Faya Causey, former Head of academic programs at the NGA, and followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Harry Cooper, Senior Curator of Modern Art

Harry Cooper is senior curator of modern art at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. A native of Bethesda, he earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1997 with a dissertation on the paintings of Piet Mondrian. Cooper worked at the Harvard Art Museum for a decade before joining the National Gallery in 2008. He has organized or co-organized exhibitions on Mondrian, Medardo Rosso, Frank Stella, and Stuart Davis, and has taught art history at Harvard, Columbia, and Johns Hopkins. His latest show, a retrospective of the art of Philip Guston, has just opened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Recent publications include “Decoding Juan Gris,” an essay for the exhibition Cubism in Color organized by the Dallas and Baltimore art museums.
