Two bodies, two voices, and a reverberant gallery under a vaulted ceiling: choreographer François Chaignaud and musician Aymeric Hainaux bring their beatbox-and-dance duel Mirlitons to Chicago.
The Renaissance Society presents Mirlitons, a performance by choreographer François Chaignaud and musician Aymeric Hainaux, as part of its long-running Intermissions series. A visceral collision of rhythm, sound, and movement, the piece brings together beatboxing, song, and dance as two voices and two bodies converge on a central stage. Having toured across Europe, from Brussels to Paris to Vienna, Mirlitons now arrives in Chicago, unfolding in the Renaissance Society’s reverberant gallery beneath its high vaulted ceiling.
Chaignaud describes the piece as “a gracious and enduring duel of beatbox and percussions,” where bodies and sounds move between vanished rituals and the intensity of the present.
Curated by Karsten Lund with Michael Harrison.
The performance is supported by Albertine Dance, a program of Villa Albertine and Albertine Foundation.
