Curatorial Exchange

Through its annual Curatorial Exchange, EXPO CHICAGO remains one of the nation’s only art fairs with a dedicated initiative focused on funding global curatorial exchanges that foster future collaborations for curators on the local, national and international level. This invitation-only program fosters critical dialogue about the Chicago and Midwest art scenes from an international perspective.
In partnership with Villa Albertine Chicago, this year’s participants from France are:

• Guillaume Désanges, Director, Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Guillaume Désanges is curator and art critic. In January 2022, he was named president of the Palais de Tokyo. He founded Work Method, a Paris based agency for curatorial projects. From 2013 to 2022, he was responsible for the artistic programme of La Verrière – Fondation d’entreprise Hermès in Brussels. From 2015 to 2019, he also curated the Méthode Room, an artist residency in Chicago. 
• Clément Postec, Art Advisor, Ateliers Médicis. He is currently artistic advisor at Ateliers Médicis. Graduate of Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Institut d’Études Politiques of Strasbourg and Sciences Po, he has been involved for more than ten years in the development of projects at the crossroads of cinema and contemporary art (films, exhibitions) as well as the deployment of cultural venues and institutions. He is also an exhibition curator and filmmaker. For Ateliers Médicis, he designs artistic programs (commissions, residencies, workshops, editions) and he is chief curator for exhibitions such as Regards du Grand Paris in 2022. He collaborates with many artists such as Julien Creuzet, Neil Beloufa, Alexandria Eregbu, Camille Juthier, Josèfa Ntjam

Panelists | Guillaume Désanges (Palais de Tokyo, Paris), Mariane Ibrahim (Mariane Ibrahim Gallery, Chicago, Paris, Mexico City), Paul Maheke (Visual artist, Villa Albertine resident in Chicago), Jérôme Poggi (Jérôme Poggi Gallery, Paris). Moderated by Armelle Malvoisin (Beaux Arts Magazine, Quotidien de l’Art). 

Over the last decade the relationship between Paris and Chicago’s artistic scenes has continued to deepen thanks to support for artist exchanges through commercial galleries, museums, government-funded residencies and French collectors based in Chicago and Paris. Gallerists Jérôme Poggi (Jérôme Poggi Gallery) and Mariane Ibrahim (Mariane Ibrahim Gallery, Chicago, Paris, Mexico) and museum president Guillaume Désanges (Palais de Tokyo) will discuss different ways of supporting artists in an international career across gallery representation, institutional exposure and international collecting alongside artist Paul Maheke, current resident of Villa Albertine in Chicago. In addition, panelists will discuss the particular role Chicago plays in their individual and collective practices as art and culture professionals across the world. 
This panel is presented in partnership with Villa Albertine, a new program of the French Cultural Services in the United States, offering tailor-made residencies for creators, thinkers and cultural professionals from around the world.
