Flamboyants! — Three Creole Worlds, One Stage
Performance
Les flamboyants @Tilawcis Collective
Réunionese theater company Tilawcis Collective brings its latest production, Flamboyants!, to Chicago and Saint Paul/Minneapolis for a series of performances, workshops, and a director talk exploring the shared Creole histories of Réunion Island, New Orleans, and Puerto Rico.
A 2025 Villa Albertine resident in Puerto Rico, Director Florient Jousse developed the project through an artistic exchange with Big Chief Juan Pardo, a prominent figure in New Orleans’s Mardi Gras Indian tradition. Their encounter revealed connections between the cultural histories of Réunion and New Orleans, later expanded through Puerto Rican musical traditions. Performed in Louisiana Creole, Réunion Creole, French, English, and Spanish, Flamboyants! explores how music and performance can preserve and reinvent collective memory.
