Thwarted love: a classic cinematic theme. But this year’s TAFFF selection sheds a fresh and offbeat light on the subject. Focus on three films curated by Villa Albertine Los Angeles.
The Man with a thousand faces by Sonia Kronlund
U.S Premiere on Wednesday, October 30 at 6:00 PM.
His name is Alexandre, Ricardo, Daniel. He claims to be a surgeon, an engineer, from Argentina, from Brazil… And he lives with at least four different women simultaneously — women literally scattered across the planet. Adapting his backstory, profession, nationality and personality to each of his lovers, our mystery man seems to juggle identities effortlessly… until documentary filmmaker Sonia Kronlund gets wind of his story and is determined to track him down.

Maybe More by Olivier Ducray and Wilfried Méance
U.S Premiere on Thursday, October 31 at 8:10 PM.
Followed by a conversation with producers Romain Brémond & Daniel Preljocaj
The romance between Sophie and Xavier, a couple of staid empty-nesters, seems to have run out of steam long ago. When Sophie invites the young couple who lives upstairs to dinner, Xavier is not thrilled. But much more than leg of lamb turns out to be on the menu, as polite conversation gives way to caustic banter… and eventually leads to a somewhat indecent proposal.

In the sub for love by Lucas Bernard
U.S Premiere on Sunday, November 3 at 4:45 PM.
Move over Howard Hawks! Lucas Bernard‘s second feature is a fast-talking screwball romp that zigzags across the globe and under the seas, following the vehemently non-romantic shenanigans of a happy-go-lucky flight steward and an intransigent tactical submarine officer.
