Meet French visual artist and Villa Albertine resident Diane Cescutti, as she concludes her two-month residency program in Houston and Marfa.
Villa Albertine in Texas, along with the Blaffer Art Museum, are delighted to present “Computers as weaving“, a conversation between designer Mukhtara Ayọtẹjú Adékúnbi Yusuf, a quilter from The Jubilee Quilt Circle, and Villa Albertine resident and French visual artist Diane Cescutti, as she will be concluding her two-month residency program spent in Houston and Marfa.
How do textile objects, practices and metaphors help us nourrish new imaginaries about outerspaces and virtual spaces?
The talk will reflect on the contribution of soft, indigenous and textile knowledges to the very real computer history and technologies development, taking into example the way softness and soft enginering contributed to the development of the spacesuit and softgoods at NASA.
The discussion will dive into Diane Cescutti’s current research Worlding Marfa during her Villa Albertine residency in Houston and Marfa, and conclude with a panel talk between the 3 artists on how textile as coded artifacts nourrish imaginaries for new relationships to technlogies, outerspaces and virtual spaces.
The event is free and will take place at the University of Houston’s Blaffer Art Museum (Dudley Recital Hall).
