As a tribute to art director John Iacovelli, the Art Directors Guild presents a screening of Giuseppe Tornatore’s love letter to cinema, Cinema Paradiso, followed by a lecture on both the movie and the work of Iacovelli.
To pay tribute to famous art director John Iacovelli who passed away in April 2023, the Art Directors Guild presents one of the most acclaimed movies he worked on: Cinema Paradiso. The screening of Giuseppe Tornatore’s movie will take place at the Aero Theatre on July 30 at 2pm and will be followed by a 60-min lecture by the Art Directors Guild about the movie and the work of Iacovelli.

About the film: When famous director Salvatore learns that his childhood mentor and smalltown projectionist Alfredo (Philippe Noiret) has died, he recalls his past at the Cinema Paradiso, from watching films upstairs in the projection booth to learning the trade himself and eventually leaving home for the big city. Back in the present, Salvatore returns to Sicily for Alfredo’s funeral, revisiting people and memories seemingly lost to simpler times.
