The Rubell Museum presents the work by Franco-Senegalese artist, Alexandre Diop. Made of discarded objects, theses works stem from his three months residency at the museum “…drawing inspiration from his European and African roots, he explores the legacies of colonialism and diaspora while tackling universal themes of ancestry, suffering, and historical violence…” The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog featuring an essay by scholar Mara Niang and a conversation between Diop and Hans Ulrich Obrist.
The artist is currently showcased at Paris+. Reiffers Art Initiatives has invited the young French artist to show his monumental canvases at the Acacias Art Center in what will be his first show in Paris under the aegis of his mentor and contemporary artist Kehinde Wiley. For Art Basel’s first collaboration with Numéro art, its editor-in-chief, Thibaut Wychowanok, talks to Alexandre Diop. Read the Interview
