CinéSchool

The program is open to French teachers in public and private nonprofit schools, accredited French schools, Alliances Françaises, and FLAM (Français Langue Maternelle) programs.

Each year, CinéSchool offers a curated selection of French-language and Francophone films suitable for different age groups, from elementary school to high school. The films are available online for viewing at home and are accompanied by comprehensive educational resources that help teachers integrate cinema into their curriculum.

CinéSchool in Numbers

Since its launch, CinéSchool has steadily expanded across the United States, showing the growing interest among teachers in using cinema as a tool for French language learning.

During its first edition in 2021–2022, the program reached 110 schools, 115 teachers, and 3,800 students. By 2024–2025, CinéSchool had grown to 175 schools across 39 states, with 221 teachers and a record 14,600 students. This means that student participation has nearly quadrupled since the program began, while teacher participation has almost doubled. This steady growth reflects CinéSchool’s increasing role as a trusted, recurring resource for French classrooms across the country.

Educational Resources

Before each screening, teachers receive workbooks and pedagogical materials to prepare themselves and their students for the film. After the screenings, activities continue online through interactive digital tools. On the Padlet platform, students can express their opinions in French through short videos, audio recordings, or written responses. On the Genially platform, they can complete interactive quizzes designed to consolidate their understanding of the film. Together, these tools create a flexible, fun, and enriching learning experience that supports comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and oral expression.

An Immersive Experience

CinéSchool offers teachers a unique opportunity to strengthen French language learning while introducing students to the diversity of French-speaking cultures.

Because the films are available online, students can watch them at home, at their own pace, and even with their families. This format helps extend French learning beyond the classroom and encourages students to engage with the language in an authentic cultural context. As one participating teacher shared, “My students are thrilled to be part of this initiative that goes beyond the classroom walls.”

How to Participate

Using CinéSchool is completely free. To take part, teachers simply fill out the online registration form. Once registered, they receive all the necessary information and resources, including access instructions, viewing dates, workbooks, and post-screening activities.
