Join us on July 8 for a free screening of On the Wandering Paths, presented as part of Summer Screenings series by the Chicago International Film Festival. In Denis Imbert’s moving adaptation of Sylvain Tesson’s bestselling memoir, a journey across France becomes a powerful journey back to life.

The Chicago International Film Festival, in collaboration with the City of Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the Chicago History Museum and its consular and cultural partners, brings back Summer Screenings—a free weekly film series. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Route 66—America’s most iconic highway—this year’s Summer Screenings program will pay homage to the classic “road movie,” in which the journey is the destination.

On the Wanderings Path (Sur Les Chemins Noirs)
Dir. Denis Imbert (France, 2023 , 95 mins)
When Pierre (Jean Dujardin, The Artist)—a celebrated writer—drunkenly falls from a balcony, his life begins to spiral downward. Barely able to stand, he decides (against the advice of his loved ones) to hike across France’s stunning, rugged landscape, from Provence to Mont Saint Michel, in hopes of healing his battered psyche. Based on real events, the film is a tender story of escape, resilience, and reconnection with nature. French with English subtitles

Free admission. Tickets available June 29 starting at 10:00 am. Advance registration is recommended.
Doors open at 5:45 PM. Open seats are released at 6:15 PM, based on availability.

Chicago International Film Festival

Cinema/Chicago, the presenting organization of the Chicago International Film Festival, is a year-round non-profit cultural and educational organization dedicated to fostering better communication between people of diverse cultures through the art of film and the moving image. We serve Chicago’s diverse and under-served citizenry by providing access to world-class cinema. We aim to enrich Chicago’s cultural environment by presenting film in contexts that encourage discussion and debate.

The Chicago International Film Festival was started in 1964 by filmmaker and graphic artist Michael Kutza to provide an alternative to the commercial Hollywood movies that dominated the city’s theaters. Seeking out the best in international cinema, the Festival has opened windows to a world of film previously or otherwise unavailable in Chicago.  In addition, at more than half of the screenings each year, filmgoers have the rare and exciting chance to meet directors, producers, writers and cast members who introduce their films and hold discussion sessions after the screenings.
