Over the last few weeks of his residency, Villa Albertine Atlanta resident Selorm Attikpo (aka SelormJay), will present a photographic exhibition and DJ sets that highlight his experience in the Ghanaian hip-hop scene and his current project to create the first African hip-hop museum and archive.

“Hip-Hop Archives: Past, Present, Future” offers a unique, behind-the-scenes snapshot of the ongoing journey of a Ghanaian photographer, filmmaker, archivist, and producer Selorm Jay. As the founder of yoyo tinz, an organization dedicated to promoting and documenting hip-hop culture in Africa, he has spent years capturing the essence of hip-hop through photos, videos, and collaborations with artists across Ghana and beyond.
This exhibition invites the viewers to dive into Selorm’s work and journey : what’s been done, what’s happening now during his time as a Villa Albertine resident, and what’s ahead once he returns to Ghana, rich with this new experience. Through three sections, this work in progress presentation showcases some of his works related to his mission as hip hop archivists, his residency experiences in Atlanta’s vibrant hip-hop scene, and his future vision of creating a hip-hop museum or cultural center in Ghana. Presenting a mix of photographs, flyers, notes, and other materials, this exhibition is an accessible and intimate look into his creative and research process.

During “Take it to the Bridge,” on Saturday, September 28 from 5-8pm, Selorm will play a DJ set highlighting Ghanaian hip-hop.
Explore the Steele Bridge Art Installation featuring 35 fine art reproductions from Atlanta’s permanent collection. This exhibition serves as a visual celebration of the city’s rich artistic heritage, showcasing works displayed in public spaces throughout the city. The event will also include voter registration from the Coalition for the People Agenda, with participation from Rock the Vote and artists from around the city. Click here for more information!

During the Goat Farm’s extraordinary marathon event, SITE, SelormJay will play a DJ set highlighting Ghanaian hip-hop. His DJ set will take place on the Eyedrum stage starting at 9pm.

SelormJay (Selorm Attikpo) is an Accra based self-taught filmmaker, Photographer, DJ and cultural producer passionate about hip hop culture. Over the years, he has built a personal archive of close to 10,000 files related to hip hop in Ghana. Selorm is the founder and creative director of yoyo tinz – a multimedia platform created in 2013 dedicated to archiving, documenting and amplifying Ghanaian hip hop culture. He created the first ever Ghanian hip hop festival in 2018. He enjoys traveling the World to document hip hop artists. He is currently a resident of Villa Albertine Atlanta, researching how to create the first-ever museum and archive on Ghanaian hip-hop. Learn more about his residency project.
