The 2025 Prix Albertine Jeunesse Shortlist

About the Prize

An annual young readers’ choice award, the Prix Albertine Jeunesse invites children from ages 3 to 11 to vote for their favorite book from a selection of works of Francophone youth literature available in English translation.

Presented by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, Albertine Books, and the Agency for French Education Abroad, the program is open to the network of accredited French schools (AEFE-FISNA) and all American public schools with a French section/program.

The 2025 Shortlist

This year’s selection was made by a committee that includes the staff of Albertine Books in New York, the AEFE network of North America, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, and the French Embassy in Canada. The selected books are divided into three categories according to age groups: 3-5 years; 6-8 years; 9-11 years.

3-5 years old: 

  • The Gift (Eerdmans Books for Young Readers / Les éditions des éléphants) by Alan Serge Dzotap and Delphine Renon
  • Harriet’s Reflections (Eerdmans Books for Young Readers/ Éditions de l’Agrume) by Marion Kadi, translated by Marion Kadi and Abram Kaplan
  • Never, Not Ever (Harper Collins/L’école des loisirs) by Béatrice Alemagna, translated by Jill Davis

6-8 years old: 

  • At the Drop of a Cat (Enchanted Lion Books/Le Rouergue) by Élise Fontenaille and Violeta Lópiz, translated by Karin Snelson and Emilie Robert Wong
  • The Coat (Flyaway Books/Gallimard Jeunesse) by Séverine Vidal and Louis Thomas
  • Aiko and the Planet of Dogs (Levine Querido/Les fourmis rouges) by Ainhoa Cayuso and Christoffer Ellegaard, translated by Irene Vázquez

9-11 years old: 

  • Meet the Lithographer (David Zwirner Books/ Éditions MeMo) by Gaby Bazin, translated by Vineet Lal
  • Sheperdess Warriors, Volume 1 (Ablaze/Glénat) by Jonathan Garnier and Amélie Fléchais, translated by Ivanka Hahnenberger
  • The Wondrous Wonders (Macmillan – First Second Books/Actes Sud Jeunesse) by Camille Joudry, translated by Montana Kane
