American Cinematheque’s first-ever Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair includes various thought-provoking French films.
The American Cinematheque will host its first-ever Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica and Los Feliz Theatre in Los Angeles. From June 1-8, the festival will showcase films that delve into the darkest aspects of humanity and highlight some of history’s most grim events. Among the French films are Robert Bresson’s Au Hasard Balthazar, Claire Denis’ Bastards, and Agnès Varda’s Vagabond, each challenging the viewer to face the darkest elements of society.
