New Media

Sea of Gold, an immersive and genrative installation by Milkorva (Nicolas Michel).

Sea of Gold is an immersive and generative installation. The artwork explores the beauty and fluid essence of water through an artistic representation composed of a million particles. Beyond its aesthetic dimension, this work sheds light on the significance of water as a vital and precious resource, as well as its imminent depletion. Depicted here as gold, water symbolizes its invaluable worth and increasing scarcity. The artwork prompts viewers to contemplate the fragility of this vital resource and the urgency to preserve it in our society, where it is becoming increasingly precious.

The Directors

Nicolas Michel (aka Milkorva) is a visual and new media artist based in Paris, with a master’s degree in Contemporary & Digital Art from the Sorbonne. He creates generative and immersive installations that explore the ever-changing and unpredictable nature of elements. Through his work, he seeks to capture the essence of natural phenomena and redefine them digitally, creating a dialogue between the figurative and the abstract. By revisiting these dynamics through new technologies, he questions our perception of reality and reveals the invisible. He isolates and distorts elements, endlessly recomposing them into forms where materiality and abstraction merge. Milkorva celebrates landscapes that transcend the human scale, integrating them into contemplative works where each movement is unique. Using generative algorithms and advanced simulations, he creates digital ecosystems in constant evolution. His visuals are accompanied by rich soundscapes, blending field recordings with atmospheric music. Sound and image are inseparable, forming an audio-reactive whole where each frequency shapes the visual composition. Inspired by Philippe Parreno, whom he assisted for six years, he explores how contemporary technologies redefine the boundaries of storytelling. His works have been exhibited at the Grand Palais, the Boston Museum of Science, Sonar Istanbul, and Miami Art Basel.
