From Inspiration to Creation: A Retrospective of Five Years of Artist Residencies

Discover From Inspiration to Creation, a catalogue highlighting creations and collaborations made possible throughout the five years of Villa Albertine’s residency program.
Since 2021, Villa Albertine has enabled more than 370 artists and thinkers to travel to the United States, across more than 60 towns and regions.
Each residency follows its own creative path, shaped by distinct artist voices. It offers artists from France and beyond the opportunity to develop a creative project—such as a screenplay, novel, musical composition, or performance—while engaging with diverse American contexts and communities.
Selected by a prestigious jury of more than 50 American arts experts, creators are given the opportunity to explore, research, and exchange in the United States. During their one-to-three-month stay in the U.S., they engage in dialogue and mutual inspiration, forging long-term collaborations that bring together French creation and local American artists and institutions.
In less than five years, more than 90 creations have come to life through these encounters—novels, exhibitions, films, concerts, and immersive projects—reflecting a diversity of experiences and perspectives. Featuring projects by artists such as Alain Damasio, Alice Diop, Laila Hida, and Wanjiru Kamuyu, this catalogue offers a glimpse into the richness of these transatlantic journeys.
