Join Villa Albertine Atlanta and Atlanta Contemporary on Thursday, May 15 at 6pm for a talk with dancer and choreographer Lasseindra Lanvin, and a screening of the documentary So You Wanna Vogue Huh?!  by Zelda Fitzgerald and Ila Pittaluga!

So You Wanna Vogue Huh?! isa 27-minutes educative fictive Ballroom documentary directed by Zelda Fitzgerald and Ila Pittaluga. Outspokenly against the appropriation of the culture, SYWVH centers the creators of the scene, namely the black trans femmes, in a raw dialogue starring Lasseindra Lanvin, Perry Gits, Naimah 007 and Gaby Vineyard.

Lasseindra Lanvin (formerly Lasseindra Ninja) has been a Paris-based dancer and choreographer for over ten years. Trained in France and the United States, she has developed her artistic practice through the organization of major balls. A pioneer of the ballroom scene in Europe, she founded the French chapter of the International & Iconic House of Ninja, before recently joining House of Lanvin. Recognized within the international ballroom community with the title of Legend, she also explores the fields of contemporary creation, musical composition and digital arts (photo and video) within prestigious institutions in France such as the Centre national de la danse and the Ballet national de Marseille.

Her work as a choreographer has been widely renowned by French and American dance institutions, such as Mood, a part of the show CHILDS CARVALHO LASSEINDRA DOHERTY by (LA)HORDE presented in Théâtre du Châtelet, Théâtre de la Ville, Théâtre National de Chaillot, at NUY Skirball Center and Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels Festival in New York.

For her Villa Albertine residency project “Fair Play”, Lasseindra Lanvin returns to the roots of Ballroom culture, exploring themes of spirituality and Black identity. From Atlanta to New York, she will examine how today’s ballroom scene addresses questions to gender expression and sexuality, and present an innovative choreographer re-enactment inspired by her cultural and spiritual reflections.

She states that “Atlanta represents a new hub for Ballroom culture, which is growing rapidly. It is here that this scene revitalized after a decline in New York, and I want to better understand the reasons behind this emergence. In collaboration with local figures such as Andre Mizrahi, I want to explore the specific dynamics that have allowed the Atlanta scene to flourish“.
