Alliance Française presents 15th edition of the Puerto Rico European Film Festival 2024.
The Alliance Française Puerto Rico presents the Puerto Rico European Film Festival (PREFF) from November 14 to 21 at Fine Art Miramar. In commemoration of the 15th edition, the festival opens with a special evening, in presence of the Ambassador of France to the United States, featuring France’s official submission to the Academy Awards for Best International Feature, “Emilia Pérez”, directed by Jacques Audiard.
This year’s edition features 30 films from 20 countries. Over a dozen French films and co-productions are scheduled : “Dahomey” by Mati Diop, “Souleymane’s story” by Boris Lojkine, “To live and to die again” by Gaël Morel or “Black Tea” by Abderrahmane Sissako. The program also shows documentaries “The Belle from Gaza” by Yolande Zauberman or “Bye Bye Tiberias” by Lina Soualem, but also great film classics “400 blows” by François Truffaut and “La Jetée” by Chris Marker.
What makes the Puerto Rico European Film Festival unique is, not only, the quality the films it presents but the wealth of programs that accompany the festival and are designed specially for young audiences, university students, industry professionals and emerging filmmakers in Puerto Rico. As such, it has become a major cultural Rendez-vous for Puerto Ricans. While FESTINEMA JUNIOR offers special screenings for school groups, CORTADITO presents the winning films of an annual short film competition for emerging filmmakers.
An Industry Forum 2024 offers an opportunity for professional exchanges between the audiovisual and film sectors of Puerto Rico and Europe, through talks, virtual pitching sessions, master classes and professional meetings. CineConexión is a Europe-Caribbean online co-production forum which aims to stimulate film relations and co-productions between Puerto Rico and Europe. Among the programs offered throughout the year, are ConVerCine program, a new initiative that promotes the viewing of carefully selected films as a group exchange activity, and Cine Pasaje, an annual program of European film cycles to be screened at universities in Puerto Rico, but also workshops and courses on film.
Vive le Cinéma à Porto Rico!
