This year’s incredible edition includes an impressive number of French and French co-production films: 22 features including films by Villa Albertine Residents’ Alice Diop (Saint Omer) and Alain Gomis (Reward & Play), 2 short films and 4 restorations including an exclusive screening and Q&A event with Balufu Bakupa-Kanyinda, director of Le Damier on October 1 at 6pm.

Don’t miss the Free Talks at Film at Lincoln Center between Alice Diop & Frederick Wiseman on October 3 at 6pm and Mia Hansen-Løve & Charlotte Wells on October 8 at 4pm.

French Films in the 60th New York Film Festival Main Slate:

This year’s Main Slate showcases films produced in 18 different countries, featuring new titles from renowned auteurs, exceptional work from returning NYFF directors as well as those making their NYFF debuts, and celebrated films from festivals worldwide, including Cannes prizewinners: Claire Denis’s Stars at Noon and Ruben Östlund’s Triangle of Sadness.

The Currents slate includes 15 features and 44 short films, representing 23 countries, and complements the Main Slate, tracing a more complete picture of contemporary cinema with an emphasis on new and innovative forms and voices.

This year’s selection includes Alain Gomis (Félicité, NYFF55) Rewind & Play, a subtle yet searing exposé of casual racism using newly discovered footage from the recording of a 1969 French television interview of the legendary jazz pianist Thelonious Monk

Le Damier has been restored in 2K in 2021 by NYU Tisch, in association with Villa Albertine – French Embassy in the United States and the Cinémathèque Afrique of the Institut français.
