The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (CAM) presents Like Water, an exhibition part of the four-part series The Weather Inside. Featuring a diverse group of international artists, including Paris-based artist Simone Fattal, the show will explore landscape as both a physical reality and an internal emotional landscape, focusing on the multifaceted nature of water.
Like Water explores the dual nature of water—its life-giving and destructive capacities—its connection to the Mississippi River, and its profound symbolic role in both culture and emotion. The exhibition weaves together a rich tapestry of artistic expression, with works by Simone Fattal, Jamal Cyrus, Candice Lin, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, and Vivian Suter. Each artist approaches water and fluidity from a unique perspective, creating a dialogue that spans sculpture, video, ceramics, drawing, textiles, collages, and painting.
Paris-based artist Simone Fattal contributes a captivating selection of ceramic and bronze sculptures, drawings, and collages. Among her works are some of her earliest ceramic sculptures, created in California, which will be unveiled to the public for the first time in decades. This rare opportunity offers a glimpse into the evolution of Fattal’s practice. Her work, rooted in myth, history, and the elemental forces of nature, invites viewers to engage with the fluidity of time and the materiality of water. Simone Fattal will be present at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis for the exhibition’s opening, offering a special opportunity to connect with her vision.
Like Water encourages reflection on water’s emotional and poetic resonances, as well as its role within the shifting cultural, ecological, and sociopolitical landscapes that define our world.
