On November 6, experience Gabriel Dupont’s La Maison dans les Dunes, an enchanting piano concert by Ruti Abramovitch at La Maison Française.

Join us on Wednesday, November 6 for an evening of music centered around  La Maison dans les Dunes, a rarely performed piano piece from the early 20th century. Gabriel Dupont, whose life was cut short by illness at just 36, showed immense promise in his musical career. A contemporary of Ravel and winner of the Second Prix de Rome in 1901, ahead of Ravel, he soon gained recognition for his opera La Cabrera. He left behind two major piano works : Les Heures dolentes and La Maison dans les dunes, which have been unjustly forgotten. These poetic suites reflect his personal struggles with illness and his poignant response to nature. The programmatic aspect of his work is evident in the titles of each of the ten pieces of La Maison dans les dunes, which mirrors the composer’s reflections on the sea and his own internal emotional experiences.

The recital will also include Baldassare Galuppi’s elegant Sonata in C major, “Isolde’s Tod” by Wagner, arranged by Moszkowsky, and the charming “Ronde Champêtre” by Chabrier.
