“French-American Histories, one story, two narratives” is a program of virtual talks launched by the Villa Albertine in collaboration with the Federation of Alliances Françaises USA. Each episode reveals a different facet of the vibrant French-American tapestry, through interviews with leading scholars, experts, and practitioners conducted by Dr. Iris de Rode, an expert in the history of French-American relations. The interviews will be broadcasted live and recorded monthly at the French Embassy or other locations in the United States. For December, we are thrilled to host Charles Rivkin, former Ambassador of the United States to France; for an episode focusing on French-American Relations.

Join us for an exclusive interview with the former US Ambassador to France Charles Rivkin, whose career spans media, diplomacy, and the film industry. In this thought-provoking conversation, we delve into his remarkable professional journey to explore diverse facets of Franco-American relations. This exclusive interview promises a deeper understanding of historical ties and the future prospects between two nations through the lens of a seasoned diplomat and industry leader.
Charles H. Rivkin is Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), the leading advocate of the global film, television, and streaming industry. Current MPA members include Disney, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, Universal, and Warner Bros. Discovery. Drawing on 30 years of experience as a media executive and a leading U.S. diplomat, Rivkin advocates for policies that drive investment in film and television production, protect creative content, and open markets worldwide. Prior to joining the MPA, Rivkin served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs and was the United States Ambassador to France and Monaco. Rivkin serves on the boards of the American Academy of Diplomacy, the American Film Institute, and Via Transportation Inc, and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University in political science and international relations and his M.B.A. from Harvard University.
