Attend an exciting conversation featuring Villa Albertine San Francisco resident, writer, and journalist Doan Bui at a coference about the preservation of language and heritage in the context of immigration at Alliance Française Silicon Valley.
An award-winning author and journalist based in Paris, Doan Bui received the Albert Londres Prize (2013) and several literary awards, including the Porte Dorée Prize and the Amerigo Vespucci Prize. She is the author of novels and essays such as Le Silence de mon père, Le Pays de Nulle Part, and La Tour.
In her work, Doan explores the issues of exile, identity and cultural transmission within diasporic communities. Born in France and raised by Vietnamese parents who fled the Vietnam War, Doan has constantly interrogated the notion of native language in the diaspora – often hidden, sometimes regained; both an instrument of domination, and the power to let collective remembrances and heritage resurface.
