An exploration on what it means to preserve historic cities today, in light of the 60th anniversary of New York’s landmark law.
To mark the 60th anniversary of New York’s Landmark Law and the release of Beyond Architecture: The New New York, Villa Albertine invites you to a public talk on the future of historic cities. As Paris and New York continue to evolve, how can they preserve their architectural heritage while adapting to the needs of 21st-century urban life?
How can we modernize iconic buildings without losing their essence? How do we honor the past while designing for the future? Architects Paul Goldberger (Pulitzer Prize winner) and Vishaan Chakrabarti, along with Muriel Mauriac, Regional Director of Historical Monuments, Nouvelle Aquitaine (France), and special guest Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Editor of Beyond Architecture: The New New York, come together for a transatlantic conversation on heritage, innovation, and the future of urban identity.
About the Speakers:
- Vishaan Chakrabarti, Architect and Founder of Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), known for the transformative restoration of the Domino Sugar Refinery
- Paul Goldberger, Pulitzer Prize–winning Architecture Critic and Contributor to Beyond Architecture: The New New York
- Muriel Mauriac, Senior Curator of Historical Monuments in France and Regional Director of Historical Monuments for Nouvelle Aquitaine Region in France
