Marseille, France, 13003
April 22-May 6, 2024
This year’s Hip Hop Society festival in Marseille will honor the bridges being built between the two cities by City/Cité Atlanta x Marseille with events such as: MarsTlanta, an art installation by former Villa Albertine resident Djellali El Ouzeri aka DJ DJEL, featuring the Atlanta Rap Map (Georgia State University); a panel discussion on hip hop and education with Brennan Collins from Georgia State University; and a performance with Atlanta’s freestyle rap collective, Soul Food Cypher.
MarsTlanta Exhibition with DJ DJEL
April 24-June 1st, 2024
Conceived as part of DJ DJEL’s residency project with Villa Albertine Atlanta, this visual and auditory exhibition mixes musical archives and sound recordings of words and street noises—soundscapes—of Marseille and Atlanta, creating a bridge between the two cities through and for hip-hop culture by transmitting an on-the-ground analysis of these sounds that make up our everyday and that define our environment.
This exhibition is supported by Villa Albertine as part of a post-residency grant program aimed at developing co-productions around former residents’ work and research.
