The Alliance Française de Chicago and Villa Albertine are honored to welcome author Miguel Bonnefoy for a reading of his latest novel, Le rêve du jaguar, followed by a discussion about his work.
After the program, guests are invited to a reception where they can enjoy a glass of wine and purchase a copy of Le rêve du jaguar, thanks to the partnership with The Book Stall.
Le rêve du jaguar is a sweeping family saga set in France, Chile, and Venezuela. The novel follows the life of a man from Maracaibo, Venezuela, who rises from an orphaned beggar to a renowned surgeon. Through his journey, the story explores themes of family, resilience, and sexual violence, written in a lyrical style reminiscent of Gabriel García Márquez. The novel was awarded both the Prix Femina and the Grand Prix du Roman de l’Académie française in 2024.
Miguel Bonnefoy is a Franco-Venezuelan author whose work has received wide critical acclaim. Published by Rivages, his novels include Le voyage d’Octavio (2015), Sucre noir (2017), Héritage (2020, Prix des Libraires 2021), L’Inventeur (2022, Prix Patrimoines), and Le rêve du jaguar (Prix Femina and Grand Prix du Roman de l’Académie française).
