Screening of “Toni” and Q&A with Nathan Ambrosioni

Synopsis: Antonia, known as Toni, raises her five children on her own. It’s a full-time job. She also sings at night in bars to provide for her family. As her two eldest are about to go to university, Toni starts to wonder: what will she do when all her children have left the nest? At the age of 43, is it still possible to take control of her own life? Both heartwarming and moving, Toni en famille explores the balance between maternal love and self-discovery.

About the Director: Nathan Ambrosioni was born in Grasse in the south of France on August 18, 1999. He made his entry in French cinema with two self-produced genre films in 2014 and 2015, with the support of a team of volunteers during his school holidays. These two “holiday” projects went on to tour the world at festivals in Brussels (BIFF), Los Angeles (Screamfest), Montreal (Fantasia), Barcelona (Sitges), and Buenos Aires (BAFICI).
In 2016, Nathan switched genres moving into more intimate cinema. He wrote and directed a short film, Ce qui nous reste, starring Zoé Adjani, which was ultimately selected for the Calgary and San Francisco Film Festivals. In 2017, he received an advance on box office receipts from the CNC for his first produced feature, Paper Flags. Filming started in early 2018 with Noémie Merlant and Guillaume Gouix in the lead roles. The film was released on February 13, 2019. Nathan then wrote two films with Audrey Diwan. In 2021, he wrote Toni, and directed it a year later with Camille Cottin in the lead role. The film was produced by Chi-fou-mi Productions and released on September 6 with the support of StudioCanal.
