About the Book

Le rêve du jaguar is a sweeping family saga set in France, Chile, and Venezuela. The novel follows the life of a man from Maracaibo, Venezuela, who rises from an orphaned beggar to a renowned surgeon. Through his journey, the story explores themes of family, resilience, and sexual violence, written in a lyrical style reminiscent of Gabriel García Márquez. The novel was awarded both the Prix Femina and the Grand Prix du Roman de l’Académie française in 2024.

About the Author

Miguel Bonnefoy is a Franco-Venezuelan author whose work has received wide critical acclaim. Published by Rivages, his novels include Le voyage d’Octavio (2015), Sucre noir (2017), Héritage (2020, Prix des Libraires 2021), L’Inventeur (2022, Prix Patrimoines), and Le rêve du jaguar (Prix Femina and Grand Prix du Roman de l’Académie française). Bonnefoy’s works have been translated into more than twenty languages and adapted into audiobooks as well as a graphic novel.
