The 2027 Prix Albertine Jeunesse Shortlist

Presented by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, Albertine Books, and the Agency for French Education Abroad, the Prix Albertine Jeunesse is an annual young readers choice award that invites children from ages 3 to 11 to vote for their favorite book from a selection of Francophone youth literary works translated in English.  

The program is open to the network of accredited French schools (AEFE-FISNA) and all American public schools with a French section/program. 

The 2027 Shortlist

This year’s selection was made by a committee that includes the staff of Albertine Books in New York, the AEFE network of North America, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States, and the French Embassy in Canada. The selected books are divided into three categories according to age groups: 3-5 years; 6-8 years; 9-11 years. 

3-5 years old: 

• Ensemble / Alone & Together by Emilie Chazerand and Amandine Piu, translated by Meredith Mundy (La Martinière Jeunesse / Abrams) 
• Le poisson-fesse / Buttfish by Amandine Pinson and Magali Le Huche, translated by Yasemin Uçar (Les fourmis rouges / Kids Can Press) 
• Quatre Pattes / On All Fours by Gaëtan Dorémus, translated by Emilie Robert Wong (Le Rouergue / Enchanted Lion) 

6-8 years old: 

• Le roi et Rien / The King and Nothing by Olivier Tallec, translated by Nick Frost et Catherine Ostiguy (L’école des loisirs / Abrams) 
• La vache la plus riche du monde / The Richest Cow in the World by Barroux, translated by E. K. Bartlett (Les Arènes / Kids Can Press) 
• Fleur de dragon / Dragon Flower by Chen Jiang Hong, translated by Alyson Waters (L’école des loisirs / NYRB Kids) 

9-11 years old: 

• Les riches heures de Jacominus Gainsborough / The Ordinary Life of Jacominus Gainsborough by Rébecca Dautremer, translated by Charis Ainslie (Sarbacane / Postwave publishing) 
• L’expédition / The Voyage by Stéphane Servant and Audrey Spiry, translated by Helen Mixter (Thierry Magnier / Greystone) 
• Frontières / Borders: Understanding the Lines that Unite and Separate Us by Karim Ressouni-Demigneux and Karine Maincent, translated by Johanna McCalmont (Kilowatt / Blue Dot Kids)
