Presented in partnership with the Alliance Française of New Orleans and in honor of the 250th anniversary of French-American relations, our annual summer series Films on the Green comes to New Orleans for the first time from September 4 to September 18, showcasing French-American collaboration on the silver screen.
The series opens on September 4 with Louis Malle’s noir classic Elevator to the Gallows, starring Jeanne Moreau and Maurice Ronet as two lovers whose plan to murder Florence’s husband quickly unravels over the course of one night in Paris. The film also features a celebrated score by legendary Miles Davis, whose 100th birthday is celebrated this year.
On September 11, Films on the Green New Orleans presents Persepolis, the acclaimed animated adaptation of Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel, directed by Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud. The film follows Marjane, a young Iranian girl growing up in Tehran and Vienna, as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian revolution and the fall of the Shah’s regime. Featuring the voices of Chiara Mastroianni, Catherine Deneuve, and Danielle Darrieux, the screening is presented in partnership with the New Orleans Film Society.
Films on the Green New Orleans closes on September 18 with the French-American, animated feature Arco, produced by Natalie Portman, about a 10-year-old boy from a peaceful, distant future who accidentally travels back to the year 2075 and discovers a world in peril. The film features voice-overs by Swann Arlaud, Alma Jodorowsky, Vincent Macaigne, Louis Garrel, Oxmo Puccino
Free and open to the public (no ticket needed).
Films begin at sunset. All films in French have English subtitles.
