Valentin Vie Binet and Romy Texier – Xolo Cuintle
2026 Oui Design! laureates and experts in decorative concrete.
Xolo Cuintle is a french-american artist duo formed in 2020 by Romy Texier and Valentin Vie Binet. An unconventional use of concrete lies at the core of their work. Through a slow and meticulous technique they have developed, concrete is, as opposed to the prevailing industrial way, modelled by hand and transformed into an organic and porous matter, closer to soil than stone.
Based in Paris, they develop together a practice deeply rooted into the spaces we inhabit. Working at the crossroads of sculpture, bas-relief and site-specific installation, they create layered compositions in which time is treated as a material. Concrete is approached as a geological matter emblematic of our contemporary condition. Through ornament and texture, their works function as temporal markers, bringing together references drawn from current events and ancient mythologies. Oscillating between function, representation, and fiction, their works invite viewers to imagine histories that are no longer linear, but layered and continuously rewritten.
Their work has been exhibited widely in France and internationally, in both solo and group exhibitions, including institutions such as the Musée de Cluny (Paris), CAP Saint-Fons (Lyon), FRAC Île-de-France (Paris, Romainville), Musée Bossuet (Meaux), Collection Lambert (Avignon), CAC Brétigny (Brétigny), and Les Capucins (Embrun). They also have participated in several international fairs including MATERIAL (Mexico City), Artissima (Turin), Art-o-rama (Marseille), Art Genève (Genève), ALCOVA (Milan), Unique Design (Paris, Savannah, Mexico), and 3 Days of Design (Copenhagen). In 2020, their work entered the collections of KADIST, followed by the CNAP in 2023 and FRAC Île-de-France in 2025. In 2024, the duo received a citizen-led commission from the Société des Nouveaux Commanditaires, followed in 2025 by a public commission from the City of Paris Centre.
