UMS presents the Chamber Orchestra of Europe , led by the omnipresent conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, in a sweeping exploration of Johannes Brahms’s orchestral works, including all of his concertos, overtures, and symphonies.
Over the course of the next four years, the omnipresent conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the Chamber Orchestra of Europe at Carnegie Hall in an overview of the orchestral works of Johannes Brahms.
The first concert in this ambitious four-year series features the inaugural and final orchestral works Brahms composed — his Symphony No. 1 and the Double Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Orchestra — performed by the 60-member Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
Founded in 1981 by alumni of the European Community Youth Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe ’s members now hold principal and section leadership positions in prestigious European ensembles. Originally guided by legendary conductors Claudio Abbado and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, the orchestra now collaborates closely with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and will be joined on this limited tour by violinist Veronika Eberle and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, both making their UMS debuts.
