Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles 2024 features two French co-productions!

IFFLA’s mission is to present the most innovative and thrilling independent films from South Asia and its diaspora to Los Angeles audience. The festival also provides mentorship, educational and networking opportunities to emerging and underrepresented storytellers in the industry.

Two French co-productions will compete this year: Last Days of Summer, a short film by Stenzin Tankyong, and Girls Will Be Girls by Shuchi Talati.

Perturbed by a haunting recurring rumble that reverberates across the mountains, two shepherds in a remote Himalayan region try to alert their elders and engage their local community. But, to their dismay, no one else around them seems to hear or care. A vivid glimpse into the idiosyncrasies of a remote community turns into an intriguing parable about the greatest existential threat of our times. This film premiered at International Film Festival Rotterdam and is part of IFFLA’s Shorts Program 1.

Brooklyn-based Indian filmmaker Shuchi Talati is known for examining the complexities of South Asian identity through the lens of gender and sexuality. She makes her feature debut with Girls Will Be Girls, which world premiered at Sundance Festival. Girls Will Be Girls is the coming-of-age drama of Mira, a young teenager on the cusp of her sexual awakening courting Sri, a handsome boy from her class, set in a Himalayan town against the backdrop of a modern India still rooted in conservative patriarchal traditions.
