Winner of the César Award for Best Foreign Language Film 2024, The Nature of Love, the sharply funny, socially astute, and sexy new film from French-Canadian writer-director-actor Monia Chokri, will open in Los Angeles on July 12.
Magalie Lépine-Blondeau plays Sophia, a forty-something French-Canadian philosophy professor whose classes focus on the nature of love. In a congenial, familiar relationship with her partner Xavier (Francis-William Rhéaume), Sophia has an active social life with fellow intellectual types and keeps a separate bedroom. Sophia’s curiosity about infidelity grows when she meets Sylvain (Pierre-Yves Cardinal), the strapping, plaid-adorned contractor tasked with fixing up the couple’s country home. Opposites attract, and they quickly begin a passionate affair, but Sophia has a hard time reconciling the reality of their differences.

The Nature of Love will open in New York on Friday, July 5 at the IFC Center followed by Los Angeles on July 12 at Laemmle Royal and a nation-wide release.
