Art in the Age of AI: Questioning Tools and Representation

What does AI teach us about the creative process? What will remain as pure creations once AI has automated certain tasks? What or who is considered a genius in an AI-powered world? This engaging panel discussion will center on how AI can assist artists by offering new dimensions of creative expression and innovation.

The Speakers

Simon Bouisson, French Artist

Simon Bouisson is a writer, filmmaker, and a La Fémis film school graduate. He has directed digital and new media projects (Jour de Vote, Tokyo Reverse, Dezoom) and has produced two interactive fiction works, Wei or Die (Fipa d’or in 2016) and République (screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2021). Additionally, has directed the television series 3615 Monique for OCS and Stalk for FTV (winner of Best Director in 2019, and Best Half-Hour Series in 2021 at the La Rochelle Festival). He is currently working on two feature-length films.

Minne Atairu, US Artist

Minne Atairu is an interdisciplinary artist whose research-driven work explores the complexities of Blackness as it unfolds within Generative AI systems. Minne has exhibited and performed at The Shed, New York (2023), Frieze, London (2023); The Harvard Art Museums, Boston (2022); Markk Museum, Hamburg (2021 – ); SOAS Brunei Gallery University of London, London (2022); Microscope Gallery, New York (2022); and the Fleming Museum of Art, Vermont (2021).

Moderated by Kyle Chayka, The New Yorker

Kyle Chayka is a staff writer at The New Yorker, where he writes a column on digital technology and the impact of the Internet and social media on culture. His debut nonfiction book, The Longing for Less, an exploration of minimalism in life and art, was published in 2020. As a journalist and critic he has contributed to many publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s, The New Republic, and Vox. He was the first staff writer of the art publication Hyperallergic. Kyle is also the co-founder of Study Hall, an online community for journalists, and Dirt, a newsletter about digital culture. He lives in Washington, D.C.

About Art in the Age of AI

Villa Albertine’s Art in the Age of AI event is a two-day exploration of the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on creative practices, present and future.  

Bringing together French and U.S.-based artists, tech world leaders, museum directors, journalists, scholars, and lawyers, the event will include panel discussions and demonstrations featuring representatives from OpenAI, SAG-AFTRA, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the U.S. Copyright Office, Google, the French Government’s AI Commission, Columbia University, Sciences Po, Polytechnique, and more. Moderators include The New York Times’ Zachary Small and The New Yorker’s Kyle Chayka.  

All panels discussions will take place in English at Villa Albertine’s headquarters in New York.
