On May 27, join Villa Albertine for a special talk on the role of museums in promoting extra-European arts with Emmanuel Kasarhérou, Director of the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris, Museum of African, Oceanian, Asian, and American Arts.
Emmanuel Kasarhérou was born in 1960 in Nouméa, New Caledonia. A Chief Heritage Curator, he earned a degree in Oceanic Languages and Civilizations in 1981 from the National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations (INALCO) and holds a postgraduate degree in art history and archaeology from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne.
Specializing in Kanak culture, Emmanuel Kasarhérou was appointed President of the Public Establishment of the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac on May 27, 2020, after serving as Deputy Head of Heritage and Collections at the museum. He was reappointed in May 2023 for another three-year term.
He co-curated the exhibitions Kanak, Art is a Statement, in 2013, and 20 Years of Collection Enrichment in 2019, both presented at the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac.
Emmanuel Kasarhérou is considered a leading figure in the preservation and promotion of indigenous art and heritage.
