Using a largely nonprofessional cast and giving Sandrine Bonnaire one of her most memorable performances ever, Varda crafts a splintered yet poignant portrait of an enigmatic woman who rejected society’s norms. With its sparse, poetic imagery and raw depiction of loneliness and freedom, Vagabond stands as a powerful exploration of a life lived on the margins.
