#ALPHALOOP invites a group of spectators to experience the imaginary practice of techno-shamanism. This practice is based on the premise that there is no dual opposition between Nature and Technology, no structural difference between computers and other “natural” manifestations of reality. To take them on this augmented-reality adventure, they will be accompanied by two guides, HIM and the META, a pair of antagonistic characters in the midst of a power struggle to lead the audience to the other side of the mirror.
The show is freely inspired by Timothy Leary’s theories on cybernetic shamanism and is based on a research trip on myths and cultures of northern Quebec. This trip reinforced the dramatic writing of a work that takes a critical and unique look at the technologies of Extended Reality (XR), the ideology of innovation, and spirituality.
The Directors
Adelin Schweitzer is a French contemporary artist, director and performer renowned for his technological detour and iconoclastic use of XR (virtual and augmented reality).
His creations go against the grain of techno-solutionist ideology and the belief that technology can solve all social, economic and environmental problems. They question the mutations that these imaginaries bring about in the social and political body. By inviting the public to take part in alternative experiences, the artist develops a form of self-defense manual, unusual and facetious, enabling us to rethink a society that has been nibbled away by technology.
Adelin Schweitzer is a graduate of the École Supérieure d’Art d’Aix-en-Provence (2004). His career as an artist now includes some twenty works. His installations and performances have been programmed in France ([Interstice[ in Caen, Ososphère in Strasbourg…) and internationally (Liverpool European Capital of Culture 2008, Marseille 2013 European Capital of Culture , ARCO biennial in Madrid, PatchLab in Krakow or SAT in Montreal…). He is a speaker at key events in the XR sector (NewImages…), in research establishments (ESAM Caen Cherbourg) and higher education establishments (Creative Campus with Sardegna teatro). Adelin Schweitzer is also the founder and artistic director of laboratoires deletere, a studio for production, broadcasting and transmedia experimentation, set up in Marseille in 2017.
